Willmar's Lee deadly on offense in 6-3 win against Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato

The Willmar Cardinals relied on the scoring touch of Joey Lee, who netted two goals, to beat the Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato Dragons, 6-3.

Lee found the back of the net on the power play 8:22 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Willmar and again while on the power play 6:58 into the second to make the score 3-1 Willmar.

Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato fell victim to a deadly Willmar power play, which ripped the Dragons for four goals.

The Cardinals excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato was unable to stop Willmar from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cardinals eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Willmar also had goals scored by Zech Streed, who had two and Josh Tinklenber and Preston Peterson, who each put in one. More assists for Willmar came via Hunter Schneider, who had four and Trey Tollefson, Tyler Pendill, and Ryan Woltjer, who each chipped in one.

The Dragons forced Willmar goalie Joey Benson to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Dragons finished with 16 penalty minutes.

Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato was led by Aaron Haataja, who registered one goal and one assist. Haataja scored 15:49 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Willmar. Ben Haugo picked up the assist. Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato also got a goal from Eddie Estrada as well.

The Cardinals' Benson stopped 32 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Willmar incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Braeden Wahl made 28 saves for the Dragons on 34 shots.
