Haataja's big game bests Waconia in 6-4 Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato win

Aaron Haataja had two goals and three assists to lead the Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato Dragons to a 6-4 victory over the Waconia Wildcats.

Haataja found the back of the net short handed 15:25 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato and again while 9:19 into the third to make the score 5-3 Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato.

Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Waconia to score on any of its four power plays. The Dragons kept the Wildcats' goalie busy throughout the game, and Nathan Kovach made 32 saves on 38 shots. Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato's goal total was higher than its season average. The Dragons average 2.8 goals per game.

Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato also got points from Mike Spreiter, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato also got a goal from Troy Ryynanen as well. In addition, Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato received assists from Ben Haugo, who had one and Ryan Tormanen, who had two.

Waconia forced Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato goalie Braeden Wahl to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots.

The Wildcats were led by Alex Fortwengler, who registered two goals. Fortwengler scored the first of his two goals at 10:19 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Waconia. Kyle Kauma picked up the assist. Fortwengler's next tally made the score 5-4 Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato with 5:13 left in the third period. Waconia additionally got points from Cal Rassman, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Ryan Mattson also scored for Waconia. Other players who recorded assists for Waconia were Nick Henninger and Justin Reinke, who each chipped in one.

Wahl recorded 41 saves for the Dragons. Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Waconia incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
