Warroad beats Mound-Westonka 4-0 as King gains shutout

The Gardens    Fri, Nov 30, 2012

Justin King was superb between the pipes for the Warroad Warriors, as he did not allow a goal in a 4-0 victory over the Mound-Westonka Whitehawks.

Kyle Sylvester was all over the ice for Warroad, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Sylvester scored the first of his two goals at 20 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-0 Warroad. Ben Smieja picked up the assist. Sylvester's next tally made the score 3-0 Warroad with 13:23 left in the third period. The Warriors played down a man on Eric Goldsmith's boarding. Smieja assisted on the tally.

Warroad stifled Mound-Westonka's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Warroad also got a goal from Kobe Roth as well. In addition, Warroad received assists from Casey Anderson, who had two and Zach Johnston and Luke Jaycox, who each chipped in one.

The Whitehawks managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Mound-Westonka ended up below its season average of 5.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Warriors' King stopped 25 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Warroad totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play. Alec Hill rejected 17 shots on goal for the Whitehawks. Mound-Westonka registered zero goals on three power play opportunities.
