Holy Family Catholic beats Delano/Rockford 4-2 after comeback scare

The Holy Family Catholic Fire survived a determined comeback attempt by the Delano/Rockford Tigers on the way to a 4-2 win.

A goal by Sam Stenson put Holy Family Catholic up 4-1 in the third period, but Delano/Rockford pulled to within two on Justin Oja's tally 13:32 into the third period.

The Fire were led by Ryan Swanson, who tallied one goal and one assist. Swanson scored on the power play 3:56 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Holy Family Catholic. Holy Family Catholic had gotten the advantage when the Tigers' Oja was sent off for slashing. Shane Gersich assisted on the tally.

With 40 shots on target during the contest, the Fire exceeded the 2.4 shots they average per game this year.

Holy Family Catholic additionally got points from Gersich, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Holy Family Catholic also got a goal from Willson Jones as well. In addition, Holy Family Catholic received assists from Jonh Peterson, who had two and Garret Riebling, Joey Marooney, Will Garin, and James Sutton, who contributed one a piece.

Delano/Rockford did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Tigers put an average of 4.5 pucks into the net per game.

Steven Lewis also scored for Delano/Rockford. Other players who recorded assists for Delano/Rockford were Grant Prinsen and Eric Ylitalo, who each chipped in one.

Derek LaCombe recorded 23 saves for Holy Family Catholic. The Fire incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Delano/Rockford's Brett Norling stopped 36 shots out of the 40 that he faced. The Tigers totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
