Hermantown beats Sauk Rapids-Rice 13-0 as Koepke gets hat trick

A hat trick by Travis Koepke was the highlight in Hawks' 13-0 win against the Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm.

Koepke got on the scoresheet 8:50 into the first period. He then added goals at 11:02 into the first and at 10:34 into the second.

The Hermantown Hawks scored early and often, and held a 6-0 advantage after the first 20 minutes of play.

Hermantown made Storm's netminders to work between the pipes, getting 43 shots and forcing 30 saves. William Mortenson made 30 stops and Justin Thorson made zero. The Hawks stifled Sauk Rapids-Rice's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Hermantown found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Hawks average 7.8 goals per game.

Hermantown additionally got points from Bo Gronseth, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Kori Ochs, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Neal Pionk, who also finished with two goals and one assist, Ryan Carlson, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Lane LeGarde, who also had two goals and one assist. Others who scored for Hermantown included Nate Pionk, who had one and Parker Hawk, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Hermantown were Scott Wasbotten, who had four, Ryan Kero, Luke Jacques, and Zach Kramer, who contributed one a piece, and Jake Zeleznikar and Chris Benson, who each chipped in three.

The Storm's offense operated below they season average. Sauk Rapids-Rice averages 2.8 goals per game. The Storm's offense were handcuffed by Hermantown's defensive play, and Sauk Rapids-Rice managed only 11 shots on goal during the game.

Adam Smith rejected 11 shots on goal for the Hawks. Hermantown incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Storm incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
