Hermantown falls to Grand Rapids in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

Eli Mangni gave the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Hermantown Hawks when he scored 1:50 into the extra period.

Grand Rapids overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Thunderhawks fell behind 4-2 after a goal by Hermantown's Neal Pionk at 3:34 in the third period. Grand Rapids tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Cody Mann at 13:41 in the third period.

Avery Peterson was all over the ice for the Thunderhawks, as he tallied two goals in the win. Peterson found the back of the net on the power play 1:11 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Hermantown and again while on the power play 3:34 into the third to make the score 3-2 Hermantown.

By firing 30 shots on goal, Grand Rapids exceeded the 5.6 shots it averages per game this year.

Grand Rapids also got a goal from Hunter Mackenhausen as well. More assists for Grand Rapids came via Jonah Bischoff, Curtiss Simonson, and John Crippa, who contributed one a piece and David Horsmann and Jake Bischoff, who each chipped in two.

The Hawks were held below their usual level of production. Hermantown averages 7.2 goals per game. The Hawks' normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. Hermantown gives up 2.4 goals per game.

Hermantown also got points from Bo Gronseth, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Jake Zeleznikar also scored for Hermantown. In addition, Hermantown received assists from Christian Wasbotten, who had one and Travis Koepke, who had two.

Hunter Shepard recorded 25 saves for the Thunderhawks. Grand Rapids incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Hawks' Jace Thomas stopped 25 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Hermantown totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play.
