Fergus Falls uses fast start to beat Sauk Rapids-Rice, 14-2Fergus Falls Thu, Jan 24, 2013 The Fergus Falls Otters opened up a five-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to a 14-2 over the Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm. Sam Rausch had two goals and three assists to lead Fergus Falls. Rausch scored the first of his two goals short handed at 5:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fergus Falls. The Otters were on a disadvantage when Kyler Peterson went off the ice for boarding. Joe Nathe picked up the assist. Rausch's next tally short handed made the score 3-0 Fergus Falls with 10:53 left in the first period. Jesse Ketonen assisted on the tally. Fergus Falls kept Sauk Rapids-Rice's goalie busy throughout the game, and Justin Thorson made 37 saves on 51 shots. The Otters' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Fergus Falls averages 4.5 goals per contest. Fergus Falls additionally got points from Zach Tarczon, who also grabbed two goals and two assists and Ketonen, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Fergus Falls included Casey Ward, Alex Phillipe, and Jacob Viger, who scored one goal each and Austin Hanson and Colton Buseth, who each put in three. Fergus Falls ended with seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major. Sauk Rapids-Rice incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
