Rochester Mayo squeaks by Faribault, 4-2

The game between the Rochester Mayo Spartans and the Faribault Falcons was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Rochester Mayo emerged with a 4-2 win.

The Spartans gained the winning advantage on a goal by Tommy Hanson 10:05 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Faribault's power play was ineffective against Rochester Mayo's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Spartans were led by Hanson, who grabbed one goal.

Rochester Mayo was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 13.0 minutes per game the Spartans had been spending in the box. Rochester Mayo's offense rang up 41 shots on the Falcons' net.

Rochester Mayo also got points from Ryan Martin, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Adam Alcott, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Matt Rogers also scored for Rochester Mayo. In addition, Rochester Mayo received assists from Tommy Fjelsted and Justyn Sweet, who each chipped in one.

The Faribault penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and two majors for 52 minutes in penalty time. The Falcons surpassed its season average of 30.0 penalty minutes per game.

Faribault was helped by Daniel Pierce, who had one goal. Pierce scored on the power play 8:46 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Rochester Mayo. The Falcons had taken the advantage when the Spartans' Fjelsted got sent off for head contact. Luke Thom picked up the assist. Faribault also got a goal from Issiah Brogden as well. Other players who recorded assists for Faribault were Turner Putrah, Riley Jandro, and Logan Murphy, who contributed one a piece.

Case Hansen made 13 saves for Rochester Mayo on 15 shots. The Spartans registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Cody Morsching rejected 37 shots on goal for Faribault. Team's Thom and Jandro were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
