Albert Lea rips Faribault, 7-1

The Albert Lea Tigers had a five-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-1 win over the Faribault Falcons.

Albert Lea got the win behind a great game by Eli Malimanek, who had one goal and two assists. Malimanek scored 16:02 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Albert Lea.

The Tigers stifled Faribault's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Albert Lea outdid its season average for goals scored. The Tigers have scored at the pace of 3.5 goals per game during the current campaign. Albert Lea's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Albert Lea also got points from Joshua Martin, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Albert Lea included Van Zelenak, who had two and Larry Olson, Kohl Kriewall, and Adam Herbst, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Albert Lea were Darik Weigel, who had two.

The Falcons' offense were handcuffed by the Tigers' defensive play, and Faribault managed only 13 shots on goal during the game.

The Falcons were led by Evan Jensen, who scored the team's only goal. Jensen scored 15:19 into the first period to make the score 1-1.

Garret Matz rejected 12 shots on goal for Albert Lea. The Tigers totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. Cody Morsching recorded 20 saves for Faribault. The Falcons totaled 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 0-for-4 on the power play.
