Fairmont falls apart in second, loses to Worthington, 7-2

The Fairmont Cardinals allowed the Worthington Trojans to net four goals during the second period and fell, 7-2.

Levi Leach was all over the ice for Worthington, as he tallied two goals and three assists in the win. Leach scored the first of his two goals at 9:55 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Worthington. Leach's next tally made the score 4-1 Worthington with 9:22 left in the second period. Mitchell Shreiner assisted on the tally.

The Trojans' penalty kill excelled, as Worthington gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

The Trojans forced Fairmont goalie Derrick Hohensee to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Worthington bested its season scoring average. This season, the Trojans average 2.1 goals per contest.

Worthington also had goals scored by Jacob Oberloh, who had three and Alex Kremer and Sam Mills, who scored one goal each.

The Cardinals excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Worthington was unable to stop Fairmont from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cardinals eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Fairmont was helped by Brock Johnson, who racked up one goal. Johnson scored 3:23 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Worthington. Trason Arens picked up the assist. Fairmont also got a goal from Rodney Engstrom as well.

Rylan Scholtes recorded 29 saves for the Trojans. Worthington ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. The Cardinals' Hohensee stopped 29 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Fairmont incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
