New Ulm blows out Fairmont, 11-1

The New Ulm Eagles had a nine-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 11-1 win over the Fairmont Cardinals.

New Ulm managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Eagles wound up below its season average of 9.0 penalty minutes per game. New Ulm forced Fairmont goalie Colton Cunning to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots. The Eagles outdid their season average for goals scored. New Ulm averages 4.1 goals per game.

The Eagles were led by Lucas Heiderscheidt, who finished with one goal and five assists. Heiderscheidt scored 16:33 into the second period to make the score 9-0 New Ulm. Wyatt Peterson provided the assist. New Ulm additionally got points from Brandon Helget, who also grabbed two goals and one assist, Colin Huffman, who also had one goal and four assists, and Ethan Kraus, who also registered two goals and two assists. New Ulm also had goals scored by Blake Neumann, who had two and Cody Gilliland, Jon Kopacek, and Mitch Neid, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for New Ulm were Cole Dulas and Ryan Busch, who each chipped in one.

Matt Berkner made 14 saves for New Ulm on 15 shots. The Eagles registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Cunning rejected 36 shots on goal for the Cardinals. Fairmont incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
