Mankato East/Loyola pulls away in second, rolls over Fairmont, 6-0

The Fairmont Cardinals allowed the Mankato East/Loyola Cougars to net four goals during the second period and fell, 6-0.

Mankato East/Loyola got the win behind a great game by Carter Johnson, who had two goals and one assist. Johnson scored the first of his two goals at 12:24 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mankato East/Loyola. Shane Sellner picked up the assist. Johnson's next tally made the score 2-0 Mankato East/Loyola with 19:36 left in the second period. Sellner assisted on the tally.

The Cougars' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Fairmont power plays. Mankato East/Loyola forced Fairmont goalie Colton Cunning to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. The Cougars surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Mankato East/Loyola averages 3.4 goals per contest.

Mankato East/Loyola additionally got points from Brad Johnson, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Brent Adams, who also registered one goal and one assist. Judd Schulz also scored for Mankato East/Loyola. More assists for Mankato East/Loyola came via Alec Schultz and Chris Liu, who each chipped in one.

The Cardinals' offense were handcuffed by the Cougars' defensive play, and Fairmont managed only 10 shots on goal during the game. The Cardinals' penalty kill unit could not stop Mankato East/Loyola's power play, which converted on two of three opportunities.

Jeremia Merela made 10 saves for the Cougars on 10 shots. Mankato East/Loyola incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Fairmont's Cunning stopped 26 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Cardinals incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
