Elk River survives Holy Family Catholic comeback, wins 3-2Elk River Barn Tue, Dec 11, 2012 The Holy Family Catholic Fire tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Elk River Elks would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2. Elk River took a 3-0 lead during the first period, only to have Holy Family Catholic storm back on a Will Garin goal 5:36 into the third period to pull to one goal down. Tim Sandford had a great game for the Elks, netting two goals. Elk River's offense rang up 32 shots on the Fire's net. Elk River also got points from Jacob Jaremko, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Elk River came via Andrew Zerban, who had one and Wyatt Ege, who had two. Holy Family Catholic was helped by Max Mork, who finished with one goal. Mork scored on the power play 6:52 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Elk River. A head contact penalty on Cooper Bleyhl had put the Fire on the power play. Joey Marooney picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Holy Family Catholic were Dylan Woolf, Jonh Peterson, and Matt Anderson, who each chipped in one. MacLean Berglove recorded 21 saves for the Elks. Elk River totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Derek LaCombe made 29 saves for Holy Family Catholic on 32 shots. The Fire totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
