Brainerd rips Sartell-St.Stephen, 7-1Brainerd - Essentia Health SC Thu, Feb 07, 2013 The Brainerd Warriors had a five-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-1 win over the Sartell-St.Stephen Sabres. Brainerd got the win behind a great game by Cole Smith, who had one goal and three assists. Smith scored on the power play 1:02 into the third period to make the score 6-0 Brainerd. Christopher Pohlkamp assisted on the tally. The Warriors stifled Sartell-St.Stephen's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Brainerd kept the Sabres' goalie busy throughout the game, and Elliott Brookins made 40 saves on 47 shots. The Warriors outdid their season average for goals scored. Brainerd has scored at the pace of 4.1 goals per game during the current campaign. The Warriors could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game. Brainerd also got points from Pohlkamp, who also grabbed one goal and two assists and Jacob Ellingson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Brainerd included Logan Rivard, who had two and Adam Fischer and Nate DeChaine, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Brainerd were Alexander Mimmack and Jed Rusk, who contributed two a piece. Sartell-St.Stephen could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Sabres average 3.2 goals per game. Sartell-St.Stephen found itself stymied offensively, and got off a mere seven shots against Brainerd's defense. The Sabres struggled on the penalty kill, allowing the Warriors to score two power play goals on three chances. Sartell-St.Stephen also got a goal from Aaron Randall as well. In addition, Sartell-St.Stephen received assists from Kyle Erickson, who had one. Captain Kyle Helmberger recorded six saves for Brainerd. Sartell-St.Stephen incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
