Crookston holds on for 6-5 win against Blake School

The Crookston Pirates survived a determined comeback attempt by the Blake School Bears on the way to a 6-5 win.

Crookston took a 5-3 lead during the second period, only to have Blake School storm back on a Christopher Chute goal 8:40 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Brady Heppner and Montell Tate provided the spark for the Pirates, combining for three goals and one assist. Heppner had two goals and one assist and Tate also added one goal.

Crookston's offense rang up 40 shots on the Bears' net. The defensemen of the Pirates were also effective in Blake School's zone, and came away with two goals.

Crookston also got points from Ryan Edevold, who also registered one goal and one assist and Ryan Bittner, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Doug Larson also scored for Crookston. Other players who recorded assists for Crookston were Chandler St. Michel, who had two and Dylan Klatt and Cameron Leas, who each chipped in one.

The Bears were helped by Johnny Ferguson, who finished with two goals. Ferguson scored the first of his two goals at 5:36 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Crookston. Crey Banks assisted on the tally. Ferguson's next tally made the score 5-5 with 7:53 left in the third period. Blake School additionally got points from Chute, who also racked up two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Blake School also got a goal from Cade Gleekel as well. More assists for Blake School came via Peter Hildreth, who had one and Mark Lyman, who had two.

Adam Huglen recorded 21 saves for Crookston. The Pirates totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 2-for-6 on the power play. Blake School's Jackson Norris stopped 34 shots out of the 40 that he faced. The Bears totaled 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 2-for-4 on the power play.
