Winona outlasts Austin, 4-2Riverside Thu, Jan 10, 2013 In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Winona Winhawks escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Austin Packers. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Luke Hemker's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Winona was led by Hemker, who registered one goal and one assist. Hemker scored 7:55 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Winona. Skyler Grossell assisted on the tally. Austin was unable to stop the Winhawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Winona eventually piled up 48 shots on goal. Winona also got a goal from Ryan Grant as well. More assists for Winona came via Isaac Larson, who had two and Jake Kline and Nick Arnold, who contributed one a piece. The Packers did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Austin puts an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game. The Packers were helped by Trevor Stevens, who had one goal. Stevens scored 10:35 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Austin. Cole Nicol provided the assist. Marcus Stoulil also scored for Austin. Andrew Yeske rejected 15 shots on goal for the Winhawks. Winona incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Austin's Rainer Londino-Green stopped 44 shots out of the 47 that he faced. The Packers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
