Brainerd hangs on, beats Alexandria 1-0

Reno Fussy gave the Brainerd Warriors the lead in the first period, and the Alexandria Cardinals was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 1-0.

A goal 7:57 into the the first period by Fussy proved to be the game winner, and powered Brainerd to the victory Mason Severson provided the assist.

The Warriors were paced by Fussy, who had one goal.

Brainerd's offense operated below it season average. The Warriors put an average of 3.9 pucks into the net per game. Brainerd's defense was surprisingly good. The Warriors gives up 2.9 goals on average per game. Alexandria was unable to stop Brainerd from sending pucks towards the net, and the Warriors eventually piled up 52 shots on goal.

The Cardinals put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Brainerd to score on any of its four power plays. Alexandria did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Cardinals average 3.4 goals per game.

The Warriors' Captain Kyle Helmberger stopped 23 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Brainerd incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Ben Allen made 51 saves for Alexandria on 52 shots. The Cardinals totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
