Frentz leads Mankato West over Albert Lea, 7-3Albert Lea City Arena Tue, Dec 04, 2012 Derek Frentz had one goal and four assists to lead the Mankato West Scarlets to a 7-3 victory over the Albert Lea Tigers. Frentz beat Lucas Malimanek with a shot 16:50 into the second period on the power play to make the score 4-3 Mankato West. Mankato West had gotten the advantage when Albert Lea's Adam Herbst was sent off for checking from behind. Scott McKissick assisted on the tally. Frentz dished an assist on Nicholas Campbell's goal that made the score 1-0 Mankato West at 7:13 into the first period. He then added assists on Campbell's goal at 12:32 into the first, on Galt Goettl's goal at 13:12 into the first, and on Goettl's goal at 12:49 into the third.The Tigers fell victim to a deadly the Scarlets power play, which ripped Albert Lea for five goals. Mankato West kept the Tigers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Malimanek made 26 saves on 33 shots. The Scarlets could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game. Mankato West also got points from Campbell, who also tallied two goals and two assists, Goettl, who also finished with two goals and one assist, and Tyler Loe, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Zachary Erickson also scored for Mankato West. Other players who recorded assists for Mankato West were Ryan Jutting, who had two and Tyler Jutting and Max Mettler, who contributed one a piece. Albert Lea racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. The Tigers had been averaging 19.0 minutes in penalties per game. Albert Lea also got a goal from Nathan Stadheim as well. In addition, Albert Lea received assists from Lucas Peterson and Aspen Heilman, who each chipped in one. Conor Wollenzien recorded 22 saves for Mankato West. Albert Lea registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
