Albert Lea shrugs off penalties, upends Faribault, 5-1Albert Lea City Arena Thu, Feb 07, 2013 The Albert Lea Tigers' penalty kill was superb, as Albert Lea survived multiple penalties to beat the Faribault Falcons, 5-1. The Tigers were led by Joshua Martin, who finished with one goal. Martin scored on the power play 9:07 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Albert Lea. Albert Lea had gained a power play chance when Riley Marquardt was whistled for cross checking. Van Zelenak provided the assist. The Tigers outdid their season average for goals scored. Albert Lea averages 2.3 goals per game. Albert Lea also got points from Nate Stadheim, who also had one goal and one assist and Zelenak, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Lucas Peterson also scored for Albert Lea. Other players who recorded assists for Albert Lea were Andrew Thompson, Darik Weigel, and Dalton Flatness, who contributed one a piece. Faribault found itself short handed often, totaling 14 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays. Garret Matz rejected 21 shots on goal for the Tigers. Albert Lea incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Cody Morsching recorded 24 saves for the Falcons. Faribault registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
