Green nets hat trick, leads Melbourne Ice to 5-2 win over Brisbane Goannas

Brisbane Goannas could not stop Melbourne Ice's Shona Green, who tallied a hat trick in a 5-2 win.

Green got on the scoresheet 12:29 into the first period. He then added goals at 13:23 into the third and at 14:49 into the third.

The 41 shots that Melbourne Ice put on net surpassed Melbourne Ice's average of 4.7 shots per game this season.

Georgia Carson also scored for Melbourne Ice. In addition, Melbourne Ice received assists from Nicole Tritter and Lucy Parrington, who contributed two a piece.

Brisbane Goannas allowed the opposing goalie to relax, ripping only 12 shots on goal to force 10 saves. However, Brisbane Goannas finished with more shots in the game than the 2.3 per game it averages. Brisbane Goannas' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Melbourne Ice power plays. Brisbane Goannas was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 24 penalty minutes.

Brisbane Goannas was helped by Lisa McMahon, who grabbed one goal and one assist. McMahon scored on the power play 8:22 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Melbourne Ice. An interference penalty on Rylie Padjen had put Brisbane Goannas on the power play. Jemma Wallace assisted on the tally. Brisbane Goannas additionally got points from Natasha Farrier, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Brisbane Goannas came via Melanie Brogan, who had one.

Georgina Carroll recorded 10 saves for Melbourne Ice. Melbourne Ice incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Brisbane Goannas' Kristy Bruske stopped 36 shots out of the 41 that she faced. Brisbane Goannas registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
