Minnesota uses shootout to best Queen City, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Andre Pison scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Minnesota Flying Aces picked up the extra point in a 4-3 (1-0 SO) win over the Queen City Steam.

The shootout featured 12 attempts between both teams.

Minnesota overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Flying Aces trailed 3-2 after a goal by Queen City's Paul McAvoy at 8:11 in the second period. Minnesota tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Mason Wyman at 5:02 in the third period.

Wyman was all over the ice for the Flying Aces, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win.

Minnesota stifled the Steam's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Queen City was unable to stop the Flying Aces from sending pucks towards the net, and Minnesota eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

Minnesota also got points from Patrick Kegley, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Minnesota also got a goal from John May as well. Other players who recorded assists for Minnesota were Dylan Nelson and Brad Hauser, who contributed one a piece.

The Steam put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Flying Aces to score on any of their three power plays. Queen City got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

The Steam were helped by Devin Fracassi, who grabbed two goals. Fracassi scored the first of his two goals at 13:22 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Lucas McCammant assisted on the tally. Fracassi's next tally made the score 2-1 Queen City with 4:22 left in the first period. McAvoy picked up the assist. Queen City additionally got points from McAvoy, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Queen City received assists from Jonah Hoover and Nick Brusa, who each chipped in one.

Minnesota took out Matt McLaughlin after he had made six saves and installed Jared Stearns in goal, where he finished with 16 saves and the win. The Flying Aces ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Alec Rounds rejected 34 shots on goal for Queen City. The Steam incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
