North Iowa survives penalties, beats Michigan, 5-1Schwan SR-1 Mon, Dec 03, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Despite having to fight off several power plays, the North Iowa Bulls were able to defeat the Michigan Mountain Cats, 5-1. North Iowa was sparked by Taylor Brown, who racked up one goal. Brown scored 6:49 into the second period to make the score 2-1 North Iowa. Chancie Hanson provided the assist. The Bulls' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Michigan power plays. North Iowa's offense rang up 41 shots on Michigan's net. North Iowa also got points from Patrick Sivets, who also had one goal and one assist. North Iowa also got a goal from Eric Behrend as well. More assists for North Iowa came via Andrew Halama, who had two and John Forseth, Tony Paulson, and Bryan Broders, who contributed one a piece. The Mountain Cats excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Michigan was led by Guy Soulliere, who scored the team's only goal. Soulliere scored short handed 3:53 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A cross checking call on Ben Mack put the Mountain Cats on the penalty kill. The Bulls' Matthew Bartels stopped 19 shots out of the 20 that he faced. North Iowa incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Spencer Craig rejected 36 shots on goal for Michigan. The Mountain Cats incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. |
