Turbitt lifts Granite City over Cleveland, 6-2

The Granite City Lumberjacks relied on the scoring touch of Nick Turbitt, who netted two goals, to beat the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks, 6-2.

Turbitt's tallies came at 18:48 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Granite City and 4:15 into the third to make the score 3-1 Granite City.

Cleveland was unable to stop Granite City from sending pucks towards the net, and the Lumberjacks eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Granite City also had goals scored by Eric Miller, who had two and Blake Phenow and Drew Otto, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Granite City were Matt Raiola, Matt Peterson, Aaron Azevedo, Mitch Humphries, Zac Sikich, and Scott Murray, who each chipped in one and Alex Koopmeiners and Brett Love, who contributed two a piece.

The Jr. Lumberjacks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Granite City to score on any of its three power plays. Cleveland could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Jr. Lumberjacks average 4.8 goals per game. Cleveland's normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. The Jr. Lumberjacks average 2.5 goals allowed per game.

Cleveland was helped by Cameron Dimmitt, who registered one goal. Dimmitt scored 19:12 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Granite City. Scott Cuthrell picked up the assist. Cleveland additionally got points from Cuthrell, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Cleveland received assists from Fred West, who had one and Andrew Sprouse, who had two.

Murray rejected 24 shots on goal for the Lumberjacks. David Heflin recorded 26 saves for the Jr. Lumberjacks. Cleveland incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors and had no power play opportunities.
