Michigan Grrrowl vanquishes G L Lightning in shootout, 8-7 (3-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Michigan Grrrowl defeated G L Lightning in a shootout 8-7 (3-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams. G L Lightning got a shootout goal from Richard Dawson. Michigan Grrrowl also got shootout goals from Steven Kubas and Vaughn Clouston.

Michigan Grrrowl overcame a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. Michigan Grrrowl fell behind 6-3 after a goal by G L Lightning's Andrew Defauw at 18:09 in the second period. Michigan Grrrowl tied things up at 7-7 on a power play goal by Clouston at 18:35 in the third period.

Michigan Grrrowl got the win with help from a great game by Clouston, who had two goals and one assist. Clouston scored the first of his two goals at 9:37 into the first period to make the score 2-1 G L Lightning. Bryan Bernier assisted on the tally. Clouston's next tally made the score with 1:25 left in the third period. Michigan Grrrowl had gotten the advantage when G L Lightning's Austin Postek was sent off for holding. Gilbert Guerro picked up the assist.

Michigan Grrrowl's goal total was higher than its season average. Michigan Grrrowl has scored at the pace of 3.1 goals per game during the current campaign.

Michigan Grrrowl also got points from Christian Ramage, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Dalton Gertsen, who also registered one goal and one assist, and James Stacey Jr, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Michigan Grrrowl also got a goal from Zachary Cruz as well. In addition, Michigan Grrrowl received assists from Cody Staub and Kubas, who each chipped in one.

G L Lightning surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, G L Lightning averages 2.4 goals per contest. G L Lightning had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on nine chances. The defensemen of G L Lightning were also effective in Michigan Grrrowl's zone, and came away with two goals.

G L Lightning was led by Andrew Shalawylo, who registered two goals and two assists. Shalawylo scored the first of his two goals short handed at 9:00 into the first period to make the score 2-0 G L Lightning. G L Lightning played down a man on Anthony Fiore's slashing. Colton James assisted on the tally. Shalawylo's next tally short handed made the score 7-5 G L Lightning with 10:21 left in the third period. G L Lightning earned a power play opportunity when Cruz was put in the box for delay of game. Ben Katan picked up the assist. G L Lightning additionally got points from James, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Dawson also scored for G L Lightning. Other players who recorded assists for G L Lightning were Jacob Bradley, who had two.

Sean Stephens rejected 21 shots on goal for Michigan Grrrowl. Michigan Grrrowl incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. G L Lightning's Colin Walsh stopped 19 shots out of the 26 that he faced. G L Lightning incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
