Soo Firehawks blows out G L Lightning, 8-2

Soo Firehawks had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 8-2 win over G L Lightning.

Andrew Holder had two goals and one assist to lead Soo Firehawks. Holder scored the first of his two goals at 5:04 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Soo Firehawks. Brandt Miller picked up the assist. Holder's next tally made the score 8-2 Soo Firehawks with 2:49 left in the third period. Miller provided the assist.

Soo Firehawks' penalty kill excelled, as Soo Firehawks gave up zero goals despite allowing nine power plays.

The Soo Firehawks penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 11 minors and one major for 47 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 26.0 minutes per game Soo Firehawks had been spending in the box. Soo Firehawks stifled G L Lightning's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Soo Firehawks forced G L Lightning goalie Jeff LaBaere to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots. Soo Firehawks surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, Soo Firehawks averages 5.8 goals per contest.

Soo Firehawks additionally got points from Lucas McLeod, who also registered two goals and one assist. Soo Firehawks also had goals scored by Matthew MacLaren, who had two and Anthony Laaksonen and James Goudreau, who scored one goal each. In addition, Soo Firehawks received assists from Tyler Goetz, who had two, Robert Boissoneau, who had three, and Alexander Drulia, Kyler Reattoir, John Barlow, and Taylor McRorie, who contributed one a piece.

Aaron Henderson also scored for G L Lightning. More assists for G L Lightning came via Anthony Fiore, Eric Roche, Latham Wojno, and Ben Katan, who each chipped in one.
