Subu's hat trick boosts Michigan Ice Dogs over Great Lakes Lightning, 10-1

Great Lakes Lightning could not stop Michigan Ice Dogs' James Subu, who tallied a hat trick in a 10-1 win.

Subu's first goal came 4:25 into the first period. He then added goals at 1:17 into the third and at 18:51 into the third.

Great Lakes Lightning's power play was ineffective against Michigan Ice Dogs' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:55 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Michigan Ice Dogs racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and two majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. Michigan Ice Dogs had been averaging 29.0 minutes in penalties per game. Michigan Ice Dogs made Great Lakes Lightning's goalies to work between the pipes, launching 40 shots and forcing 30 saves. Garrett Avery made 21 stops and Colin Walsh made nine. Michigan Ice Dogs put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Great Lakes Lightning to score on any of its nine power plays. Michigan Ice Dogs outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, Michigan Ice Dogs averages 4.2 goals per contest. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Michigan Ice Dogs also got points from Tyler Textor, who also tallied one goal and four assists, Alexander Stewart, who also had two goals and one assist, Joshua Arnold, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Matthew Hartford, who also registered one goal and two assists. Michigan Ice Dogs also got a goal from Hunter Ledgerwood as well. In addition, Michigan Ice Dogs received assists from Nicholas DeGiusti, Ashton Guy, Cameron Kucharski, Cody Brent, Zachary Bess, and Arron Podbielniak, who each chipped in one and Robert Speer and Mark Rotondo, who contributed two a piece.

Great Lakes Lightning was led by Colton James, who scored the team's only goal. James scored 1:06 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Michigan Ice Dogs. Andrew Defauw provided the assist.

Colton Lewicki recorded 16 saves for Michigan Ice Dogs. Michigan Ice Dogs registered one goal on two power play opportunities. For Michigan Ice Dogs, Guy was ejected from the game. Great Lakes Lightning ended with 24 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors. Great Lakes Lightning ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Austin Postek was ejected from the game.
