Rhinelander Street Cats vanquishes Bloomington Blaze in shootout, 4-3 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Rhinelander Street Cats defeated Bloomington Blaze in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO).

The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. In addition to the clincher, Rhinelander Street Cats got a shootout goal from Eric Blankenship.

Rhinelander Street Cats came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Rhinelander Street Cats was down 3-2 after a goal by Bloomington Blaze's Kyler Schmor at 13:10 in the third period. Rhinelander Street Cats knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Peter Carlin at 15:50 in the third period.

Rhinelander Street Cats forced Bloomington Blaze goalie Gavin Carlson to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

Rhinelander Street Cats also got a goal from Cody Schatzman as well. More assists for Rhinelander Street Cats came via Caleb Stolzman and Devin Vanderwyk, who each chipped in one.

Bloomington Blaze managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Bloomington Blaze ended up below its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Rhinelander Street Cats was unable to stop Bloomington Blaze from sending pucks towards the net, and Bloomington Blaze eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Luis Lopez also scored for Bloomington Blaze. Other players who recorded assists for Bloomington Blaze were Steven Smoltz, who had two and Kyle Kabacinski, Joseph Clemente, Anton Nenakhov, and Patrick Anaruk, who contributed one a piece.

Spencer Brasswell recorded 31 saves for Rhinelander Street Cats. Rhinelander Street Cats avoided the penalty box for the entire game and scored zero goals off of one power plays. Bloomington Blaze's Carlson stopped 37 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Bloomington Blaze registered zero goals on zero power play opportunities.
