Rhinelander Street Cats vanquishes NWO Grrrowl in shootout, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Rhinelander Street Cats defeated NWO Grrrowl in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed nine turns to complete the shootout.

Rhinelander Street Cats saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Rhinelander Street Cats made the score 3-1 on a power play goal by Ryan Roeser at 1:39 in the third period. NWO Grrrowl evened things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Cody Staub at 12:40 in the third period.

Rhinelander Street Cats' offense rang up 38 shots on NWO Grrrowl's net.

More assists for Rhinelander Street Cats came via Devin Vanderwyk, who had two and Cody Schatzman and Peter Carlin, who each chipped in one.

NWO Grrrowl was not heavily penalized during the game, and finished with eight minors and one major totalling 31 minutes. NWO Grrrowl finished with less than its 44.0 minutes average penalties per game. NWO Grrrowl kept Rhinelander Street Cats' goalie busy throughout the game, and Kent Nusbaum made 36 saves on 39 shots. The defensemen of NWO Grrrowl were also effective in Rhinelander Street Cats' zone, and came away with two goals.

NWO Grrrowl was helped by John Qualley, who registered one goal. Qualley scored 9:36 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Rhinelander Street Cats. Christopher Carpenter picked up the assist. NWO Grrrowl also got a goal from Austin Giblin as well. Other players who recorded assists for NWO Grrrowl were Kameron Cunningham, John Cahill, and Kyle Cobb, who contributed one a piece.

Rhinelander Street Cats incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. NWO Grrrowl's Chris Lewis stopped 34 shots out of the 37 that he faced. NWO Grrrowl registered two goals on six power play opportunities.
