Miller leads Soo Firehawks over Great Lakes Lightning, 7-2

Soo Firehawks' Brandt Miller had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in his team's 7-2 win over Great Lakes Lightning.

Miller found the back of the net short handed 10:16 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Soo Firehawks and again while 12:57 into the third to make the score 7-2 Soo Firehawks.

Great Lakes Lightning's power play was ineffective against Soo Firehawks' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Soo Firehawks forced Great Lakes Lightning's netminders to work all game long, finishing with 39 shots and forcing 32 saves. Jeff LaBaere made 22 stops and Colin Walsh made 10. Soo Firehawks stifled Great Lakes Lightning's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Soo Firehawks also got points from Ryan Marshall, who also registered two goals and one assist and Nicholas Murphy, who also grabbed one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Cody Anderson also scored for Soo Firehawks. More assists for Soo Firehawks came via Matthew Majic, Kyle Maleport, Kevin Killips, Kyler Reattoir, and Tyler Goetz, who each chipped in one.

Great Lakes Lightning forced Soo Firehawks goalie Brandon Hansen to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Great Lakes Lightning was helped by Latham Wojno, who finished with one goal. Wojno scored 12:11 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Great Lakes Lightning. Colton James provided the assist. Great Lakes Lightning also got a goal from Richard Dawson as well. In addition, Great Lakes Lightning received assists from Jacob Bradley, Aaron Henderson, and Austin Postek, who contributed one a piece.

Soo Firehawks' Hansen stopped 33 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Soo Firehawks totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Great Lakes Lightning incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
