Soo Firehawks holds on for 4-3 win against Great Lakes Lightning

Soo Firehawks survived a determined comeback attempt by Great Lakes Lightning on the way to a 4-3 win.

A goal by Anthony Laaksonen put Soo Firehawks up 4-2 in the third period, but Great Lakes Lightning pulled to within one on Colton James' tally 14:03 into the third period.

Ryan Marshall had a great game for Soo Firehawks, netting two goals. Marshall scored at 6:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Soo Firehawks and again while 9:15 into the second to make the score 2-1 Soo Firehawks.

Soo Firehawks also got points from John Barlow, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Soo Firehawks received assists from Lucas Wizauer and Alexander Drulia, who contributed one a piece and Kevin Killips and Nicholas Murphy, who each chipped in two.

Great Lakes Lightning was helped by Cochise Smith, who finished with one goal. Smith scored on the power play 13:13 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Great Lakes Lightning had gotten the advantage when Soo Firehawks' Killips was sent off for slashing. Richard Dawson provided the assist. Great Lakes Lightning also got a goal from Miles Knight as well. More assists for Great Lakes Lightning came via Jacob Bradley and Ben Katan, who contributed one a piece.

Soo Firehawks' Keegan McGraw stopped 16 shots out of the 19 that he faced. Soo Firehawks incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Jeff LaBaere rejected 25 shots on goal for Great Lakes Lightning. Great Lakes Lightning incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
