Soo Firehawks squeaks by Bloomington Blaze, 4-3

Soo Firehawks and Bloomington Blaze were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Soo Firehawks made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-3.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Lucas Wizauer's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Soo Firehawks was led by Wizauer, who had one goal. Wizauer scored 16:24 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Soo Firehawks. Alexander Drulia picked up the assist.

Soo Firehawks forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 12 minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Soo Firehawks had been averaging 26.0 minutes in penalties per game. Soo Firehawks kept Bloomington Blaze's goalie busy throughout the game, and Gavin Carlson made 40 saves on 44 shots.

Kyle Maleport also scored for Soo Firehawks. More assists for Soo Firehawks came via Kevin Killips, who had two and Brandt Miller, Cody Anderson, and Anthony Laaksonen, who each chipped in one.

Bloomington Blaze additionally got points from Cody Philips, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Bloomington Blaze also got a goal from Joseph Dale as well. Other players who recorded assists for Bloomington Blaze were Joseph Clemente, Steven Smoltz, Anton Nenakhov, and Matt Donley, who contributed one a piece.

Brandon Hansen rejected 21 shots on goal for Soo Firehawks. Soo Firehawks registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. Bloomington Blaze totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-8 on the power play.
