Soo Firehawks squeaks by Bloomington Blaze, 6-4Grossinger Motors Arena Sun, Nov 25, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Soo Firehawks gutted out a close 6-4 win against Bloomington Blaze. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Anthony Laaksonen at 16:22 of the third period. Nicholas Murphy was all over the ice for Soo Firehawks, as he racked up two goals in the win. Murphy found the back of the net 11:39 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Soo Firehawks and again while short handed 19:20 into the third to make the score 6-4 Soo Firehawks. Soo Firehawks pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 46 penalty minutes. Soo Firehawks also got points from Alexander Drulia, who also had one goal and two assists, Laaksonen, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and John Barlow, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Soo Firehawks also got a goal from Ryan Marshall as well. In addition, Soo Firehawks received assists from Kyler Reattoir, who had two and Kevin Killips and Nate Fitzpatrick, who each chipped in one. Bloomington Blaze kept Soo Firehawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brandon Hansen made 38 saves on 42 shots. Bloomington Blaze was helped by Matt Donley, who registered one goal. Donley scored 19:07 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Soo Firehawks. Cody Philips picked up the assist. Bloomington Blaze additionally got points from Jacob Lourash, who also had one goal and one assist and Joseph Clemente, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Steven Smoltz also scored for Bloomington Blaze. Other players who recorded assists for Bloomington Blaze were Kyler Schmor and Tyler Gehrken, who contributed one a piece. Soo Firehawks registered one goal on four power play opportunities. William Rohleder recorded 23 saves for Bloomington Blaze. Bloomington Blaze totaled 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors and went 1-for-7 on the power play.
