Holland River Bandits vanquishes Bloomington Blaze in shootout, 7-6 (3-2 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Holland River Bandits defeated Bloomington Blaze in a shootout 7-6 (3-2 SO).

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Bloomington Blaze's shootout goals were scored by Matt Donley and Tyler Gehrken. Holland River Bandits also got shootout goals from Abram Prince and Tyler Teglia.

Holland River Bandits came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. Holland River Bandits fell behind 5-2 after a power play goal by Bloomington Blaze's Jacob Lourash at 17:44 in the second period. Holland River Bandits knotted things up at 6-6 on a goal by Bryce Stenstrom at 18:47 in the third period.

Holland River Bandits got the win thanks to a great game by Cameron Fisher, who had two goals and two assists. Fisher scored the first of his two goals at 13:30 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Stenstrom assisted on the tally. Fisher's next tally made the score 5-4 Bloomington Blaze with 17:31 left in the third period. Stenstrom picked up the assist.

Holland River Bandits forced Bloomington Blaze's goalies to work all game long, totaling 49 shots and forcing 42 saves. Gavin Carlson made 13 stops and William Rohleder made 29. Holland River Bandits found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Holland River Bandits averages 4.4 goals per contest. Holland River Bandits' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Holland River Bandits also got points from Cory Bussing, who also had one goal and one assist, Stenstrom, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Teglia, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Holland River Bandits also got a goal from Maxwell Carson as well. More assists for Holland River Bandits came via Peter Glaser, who had one and Prince, who had two.

Bloomington Blaze made Holland River Bandits' goaltenders to work without much rest, racking up 54 shots and forcing 48 saves. John Posler made 27 stops and Aaron Alkema made 21. Bloomington Blaze outdid its season average for goals scored. Bloomington Blaze has scored at the pace of 3.4 goals per game during the current campaign.

Bloomington Blaze was helped by Donley, who registered one goal and three assists. Donley scored short handed 10:41 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Bloomington Blaze. Bloomington Blaze played down a man on Parker Michels' cross checking. Steven Smoltz assisted on the tally. Bloomington Blaze additionally got points from Cody Philips, who also finished with one goal and three assists. Joseph Clemente also scored for Bloomington Blaze. In addition, Bloomington Blaze received assists from Kyler Schmor, who had one.

Holland River Bandits totaled 27 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Bloomington Blaze totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 3-for-7 on the power play.
