Great Lakes Lightning outlasts Rhinelander Street Cats, 6-5

Great Lakes Lightning gutted out a close 6-5 win against Rhinelander Street Cats.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Miles Knight at 14:16 of the third period.

Aaron Henderson had a great game for Great Lakes Lightning, netting two goals. Henderson's tallies came at 3:45 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and 15:19 into the first to make the score 3-2 Great Lakes Lightning.

Great Lakes Lightning kept Rhinelander Street Cats' goalie busy throughout the game, and Kent Nusbaum made 44 saves on 50 shots. Great Lakes Lightning bested its season scoring average. This season, Great Lakes Lightning averages 2.7 goals per contest.

Great Lakes Lightning also got points from Knight, who also had one goal and two assists, Andrew Shalawylo, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Jacob Bradley, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Great Lakes Lightning also got a goal from Andrew Defauw as well. In addition, Great Lakes Lightning received assists from Austin Postek, who had three and Jeff LaBaere, Alexander Krebs, Richard Dawson, Latham Wojno, and Jack Grebe, who each chipped in one.

Great Lakes Lightning was unable to stop Rhinelander Street Cats from sending pucks towards the net, and Rhinelander Street Cats eventually piled up 46 shots on goal. The defensemen of Rhinelander Street Cats were also effective in Great Lakes Lightning's zone, and came away with four goals.

Rhinelander Street Cats was led by Rustam Kuts, who finished with two goals and two assists. Kuts scored the first of his two goals at 49 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Rhinelander Street Cats. Devin Vanderwyk provided the assist. Kuts' next tally made the score 5-5 with 10:40 left in the third period. Kirill Kulakov picked up the assist. Rhinelander Street Cats additionally got points from Caleb Stolzman, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Vanderwyk, who also racked up two goals and one assist. More assists for Rhinelander Street Cats came via Todd Houtari, who had two and Peter Carlin, who had three.

LaBaere rejected 41 shots on goal for Great Lakes Lightning. Great Lakes Lightning incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Rhinelander Street Cats incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
