Hartland Hounds rolls over Bloomington Blaze, 8-2

Hartland Hounds had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 8-2 win over Bloomington Blaze.

Hartland Hounds was paced by Paul Krystyniak, who racked up one goal and one assist. Krystyniak scored on the power play 5:59 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hartland Hounds. Hartland Hounds earned a power play opportunity when Jacob Lourash was put in the box for tripping. Andrew Brownlee picked up the assist.

Hartland Hounds made Bloomington Blaze's netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, totaling 31 shots and forcing 23 saves. Robert Cook made 13 stops and William Rohleder made 10. Hartland Hounds stifled Bloomington Blaze's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Hartland Hounds found itself short handed often, totaling 30 penalty minutes and allowing four power plays. The defensemen of Hartland Hounds were also effective in Bloomington Blaze's zone, and came away with two goals.

Hartland Hounds also had goals scored by Tyler Thirlby, who had one and Jared Vincek, Cameron Miglia, and Brendan Olson, who each put in two. Other players who recorded assists for Hartland Hounds were Thomas Kerr, Derek Kalisz, Trevor Sergott, and Matthew Passino, who each chipped in one.

Bloomington Blaze's offense was handcuffed by Hartland Hounds' defensive play, and Bloomington Blaze managed only 13 shots on goal during the game. Bloomington Blaze's penalty kill was ineffective, and let in three goals to Hartland Hounds' power play unit.

Bloomington Blaze was helped by Kyler Schmor, who had two goals. Schmor scored the first of his two goals at 6:04 into the second period to make the score 5-1 Hartland Hounds. Joseph Clemente assisted on the tally. Schmor's next tally made the score 7-2 Hartland Hounds with 4:11 left in the third period. Bloomington Blaze found itself down a man on Steven Smoltz's cross checking. Clemente picked up the assist. In addition, Bloomington Blaze received assists from Cody Philips, who had one.

Hartland Hounds' Brownlee stopped 11 shots out of the 13 that he faced. Bloomington Blaze ended with 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors.
