Rhinelander Street Cats uses shootout to best Soo Firehawks, 14-13 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Rhinelander Street Cats defeated Soo Firehawks in a shootout 14-13 (2-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for seven attempts between the teams. In addition to the clincher, Rhinelander Street Cats got a shootout goal from Eric Blankenship.

Rhinelander Street Cats overcame a four-goal deficit to capture the victory. Rhinelander Street Cats trailed 5-1 after a goal by Soo Firehawks' Kevin Killips at 2:15 in the second period. Rhinelander Street Cats tied things up at 13-13 on a goal by Blankenship at 19:30 in the third period.

Rhinelander Street Cats forced Soo Firehawks' goalies to work between the pipes, ripping 57 shots and forcing 43 saves. Keegan McGraw made 33 stops and Brandon Hansen made 10. Rhinelander Street Cats outdid its season average for goals scored. Rhinelander Street Cats has scored at the pace of 4.7 goals per game during the current campaign. Rhinelander Street Cats' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in 11 goals.

Rhinelander Street Cats was helped by Rustam Kuts, who tallied three goals and two assists. Rhinelander Street Cats also got points from Blankenship, who also tallied two goals and one assist, Blake Rowe, who also racked up two goals and one assist, and Devin Vanderwyk, who also had four goals and three assists to lead the team in points. Rhinelander Street Cats also got a goal from Taylor Cutting as well. More assists for Rhinelander Street Cats came via Todd Houtari, who had two, Peter Carlin, who had three, and Travis Houtari, Dylan Farmer, and Nicholas Fleming, who each chipped in one.

Soo Firehawks made Rhinelander Street Cats' goaltenders to work in net, launching 66 shots and forcing 53 saves. Spencer Brasswell made 19 stops and Mark Lingofelt made 34. Soo Firehawks' goal total was higher than its season average. Soo Firehawks averages 4.5 goals per game. Soo Firehawks got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Soo Firehawks was led by Nicholas Murphy, who registered three goals and five assists. Soo Firehawks additionally got points from Alexander Drulia, who also grabbed two goals and two assists, Killips, who also finished with two goals and one assist, and Nate Fitzpatrick, who also had one goal and three assists. Matthew MacLaren also scored for Soo Firehawks. Other players who recorded assists for Soo Firehawks were Tyler Goetz and Quinton Myotte, who contributed one a piece.

Rhinelander Street Cats incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Soo Firehawks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
