Rhinelander Street Cats uses shootout to best Soo Firehawks, 5-4 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Rhinelander Street Cats defeated Soo Firehawks in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured nine attempts between both teams. Soo Firehawks' shootout goal was scored by Nicholas Murphy. Rhinelander Street Cats also got a shootout goal from Eric Blankenship.

Rhinelander Street Cats saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Rhinelander Street Cats made the score 4-1 on a goal by Dylan Farmer at 2:02 in the third period. Soo Firehawks evened things up at 4-4 on a goal by Alexander Drulia at 15:54 in the third period.

Rhinelander Street Cats made Soo Firehawks' goalies to work all game long, firing 45 shots and forcing 40 saves. Brandon Hansen made 32 stops and Brennon Wachter made eight. Rhinelander Street Cats' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Soo Firehawks power plays.

Rhinelander Street Cats was helped by Devin Vanderwyk, who finished with one goal and one assist. Vanderwyk scored on the power play 4:22 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Rhinelander Street Cats. Rhinelander Street Cats earned a power play opportunity when Drulia was put in the box for hooking. Peter Carlin picked up the assist. Rhinelander Street Cats also got a goal from Alex Wagner as well. In addition, Rhinelander Street Cats received assists from Todd Houtari, who had two and Blankenship and Rustam Kuts, who contributed one a piece.

Soo Firehawks was led by Murphy, who grabbed three goals. More assists for Soo Firehawks came via Brandt Miller, who had two and Anthony Laaksonen and Nate Fitzpatrick, who each chipped in one.

Spencer Brasswell rejected 25 shots on goal for Rhinelander Street Cats. Rhinelander Street Cats incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Soo Firehawks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
