Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Bloomington Blaze defeated Michigan Ice Dogs in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed 14 turns to complete the shootout. Michigan Ice Dogs got a shootout goal from Tyler Textor. Bloomington Blaze's other shootout goal was scored by Cody Philips.

Bloomington Blaze came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Bloomington Blaze fell behind 4-2 after a goal by Michigan Ice Dogs' Arron Podbielniak at 4:38 in the third period. Bloomington Blaze knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Kyler Schmor at 19:57 in the third period.

Schmor had two goals and one assist to lead Bloomington Blaze. Schmor scored the first of his two goals at 3:22 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Joseph Clemente provided the assist. Schmor's next tally made the score with three seconds left in the third period. William Widmar assisted on the tally.

Bloomington Blaze excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Bloomington Blaze forced Michigan Ice Dogs goalie Andrew Freeman to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Bloomington Blaze also got points from Clemente, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Tyler Gehrken also scored for Bloomington Blaze. In addition, Bloomington Blaze received assists from Matt Donley, who had two.

Michigan Ice Dogs forced Bloomington Blaze's goalies to work between the pipes, getting 34 shots and forcing 30 saves. Robert Cook made 10 stops and William Rohleder made 20. Michigan Ice Dogs put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Bloomington Blaze to score on any of its three power plays.

Michigan Ice Dogs was led by Alexander Stewart, who finished with three goals. More assists for Michigan Ice Dogs came via James Subu, who had two and Ashton Guy and Cody Brent, who contributed one a piece.

Bloomington Blaze incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Freeman rejected 28 shots on goal for Michigan Ice Dogs. Michigan Ice Dogs incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
