Dayton Aeros uses shootout to best Holland River Bandits, 9-8 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Dayton Aeros defeated Holland River Bandits in a shootout 9-8 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed 10 turns to complete the shootout. Holland River Bandits' shootout goal was scored by Kyle Kabacinski. Dayton Aeros also got a shootout goal from John Cahill.

Cody Olsen and Michael Burgess provided the spark for Dayton Aeros, combining for four goals and three assists. Olsen racked up two goals and two assists and Burgess also notched two goals and one assist.

Dayton Aeros was often in penalty trouble, totaling 13 minors and two majors for 46 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 29.0 minutes per game Dayton Aeros had been spending in the box. Dayton Aeros kept Holland River Bandits' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jeromy Semtner made 40 saves on 49 shots. Dayton Aeros outdid its season average for goals scored. Dayton Aeros has scored at the pace of 5.2 goals per game during the current campaign. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

Dayton Aeros additionally got points from Burgess, who also registered two goals and one assist and Kerry Cummings, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Dayton Aeros also had goals scored by Troy Sandy, who had one and Cody Staub, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Dayton Aeros were Mark Capaldi, who had two and Wesley Brand, Dalton Gertsen, and Ryan Santo, who each chipped in one.

Holland River Bandits made Dayton Aeros' goaltenders to work between the pipes, getting 47 shots and forcing 39 saves. Chris Lewis made 26 stops and Vincent Ryckman made 13. Holland River Bandits had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 11 chances.

Holland River Bandits was helped by Bryce Stenstrom, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Stenstrom scored the first of his two goals at 19:28 into the first period to make the score 4-3 Dayton Aeros. Tyler Teglia assisted on the tally. Stenstrom's next tally made the score 5-4 Holland River Bandits with 15:37 left in the second period. Teglia picked up the assist. Holland River Bandits also got points from Skyler Emelander, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Alexander Carson, who also registered one goal and one assist, Cameron Fisher, who also had two goals and one assist, and Abram Prince, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Holland River Bandits also got a goal from Kabacinski as well. In addition, Holland River Bandits received assists from Riley Clark, Brodie Wilson, Bailey Rietman, and Harry Braafhart, who contributed one a piece.

Dayton Aeros registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For Dayton Aeros, Gertsen was ejected from the game. Holland River Bandits ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major.
