Gillette Wild falls apart in second, loses to Yellowstone Quake, 6-2

Gillette Wild was within striking distance after one period, but Yellowstone Quake put the pedal down in the second en route to a 6-2 victory.

Yellowstone Quake was led by Bryan Standly, who racked up one goal and one assist. Standly scored 2:32 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Yellowstone Quake. Tanner Fricke provided the assist.

Yellowstone Quake put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Gillette Wild to score on any of its four power plays. Yellowstone Quake forced Gillette Wild goalie Sean Kelley to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Yellowstone Quake additionally got points from Andrew Lansing, who also registered one goal and one assist and Chris Andre, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Yellowstone Quake also had goals scored by George Splichal, who had one and Michael Berens, who had two. More assists for Yellowstone Quake came via Orri Haman, who had three and Anthony Leong, Sam Basich, and Patryk Fiedorek, who contributed one a piece.

Gillette Wild racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 17.0 minutes per game Gillette Wild had been spending in the box. Gillette Wild did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. Gillette Wild puts an average of 5.0 pucks into the net per game.

Gillette Wild was helped by Brayden Yatzu, who grabbed one goal. Yatzu scored 19:21 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Yellowstone Quake. Connor Hicks assisted on the tally. Tyler Cavan also scored for Gillette Wild. In addition, Gillette Wild received assists from Taylor Motsinger, who had one and Bobby Solari, who had two.

Trevor Zangs rejected 23 shots on goal for Yellowstone Quake. Yellowstone Quake totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Kelley recorded 30 saves for Gillette Wild.
