Michigan Ice Dogs uses shootout to best Holland River Bandits, 7-6 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Michigan Ice Dogs defeated Holland River Bandits in a shootout 7-6 (2-0 SO).

The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. In addition to the clincher, Michigan Ice Dogs got a shootout goal from Alexander Stewart.

Michigan Ice Dogs came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Michigan Ice Dogs trailed 2-0 after a goal by Holland River Bandits' Bryce Stenstrom at zero seconds in the second period. Michigan Ice Dogs knotted things up at 6-6 on a goal by Harry Braafhart at 18:08 in the third period.

Tyler Textor was all over the ice for Michigan Ice Dogs, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Textor scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:44 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Holland River Bandits. A high sticking penalty on Bailey Rietman had put Michigan Ice Dogs on the power play. Hunter Ledgerwood picked up the assist. Textor's next tally on the power play made the score 5-5 with 10:14 left in the third period. James Subu provided the assist.

The Michigan Ice Dogs penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 26.0 minutes per game Michigan Ice Dogs had been spending in the box. Michigan Ice Dogs forced Holland River Bandits goalie Dennis Hoekzema to work between the pipes, taking 64 shots. Michigan Ice Dogs outdid its season average for goals scored.
