DURHAM WEST beats TORONTO 2-1 after comeback scare

TORONTO tried to dig itself out of a two-goal hole, but DURHAM WEST held on for a 2-1 victory.

DURHAM WEST made the score 2-0 on a goal by Laura Horwood at 8:54 in the second period, and TORONTO got as close as 2-1 when Morgan Kelly scored 4:17 into the third period.

DURHAM WEST was led by goalie Kassidy Sauve, who finished with 36 saves while allowing one goal. Sauve certainly lowered her goals against average, which was 2.37 entering the contest.

DURHAM WEST found itself stymied offensively, and got off a mere 14 shots against TORONTO's defense.

Samantha McKenzie also scored for DURHAM WEST. More assists for DURHAM WEST came via Dakota Waites, Stephanie Cooper, and Lindsay Johnston, who each chipped in one.

TORONTO stifled DURHAM WEST's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. TORONTO could not produce up to it normal offensive output. TORONTO puts an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. TORONTO forced DURHAM WEST goalie Sauve to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

In addition, TORONTO received assists from Jessica Gazzola and Amanda Pantaleo, who contributed one a piece.

DURHAM WEST incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Liberty McKague made 12 saves for TORONTO on 14 shots. TORONTO incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
