Allen blows out Wichita, 6-2

The Allen Americans had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-2 win over the Wichita Thunder.

Allen got the win on the strength of a great game by Brian McMillin, who had two goals and one assist. McMillin scored the first of his two goals at 1:37 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Allen. Jim McKenzie assisted on the tally. McMillin's next tally made the score 5-1 Allen with 7:54 left in the third period. A roughing penalty on Jon Madden had put the Americans on the power play. Darryl Bootland provided the assist.

Allen excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Americans outdid their season average for goals scored. Allen has scored at the pace of 3.2 goals per game during the current campaign. The 38 shots that the Americans put on net surpassed Allen's average of 22.4 shots per game this season.

Allen also got points from Trevor Ludwig, who also racked up one goal and one assist and McKenzie, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Allen also got a goal from Jason Deitsch as well. Other players who recorded assists for Allen were Todd Robinson, who had three and Drew Daniels, Corbin Baldwin, Chris Doyle, and Adam Pineault, who contributed one a piece.

Wichita could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 46 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Thunder were led by Aaron Boogaard, who took one shot.

Aaron Dell recorded 20 saves for the Americans. Allen incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Wichita's Torrie Jung stopped 32 shots out of the 37 that he faced.
