Wichita stifles Allen's comeback, gains 4-3 victory

The Wichita Thunder came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Allen Americans, but did just enough to escape with a 4-3 victory.

Wichita led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Thunder's Ian Lowe's scored at 6:25 in the second period to put Wichita up 3-0.

The Thunder were led by Matt Robinson, who grabbed one goal. Robinson scored 18:48 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Wichita. Matt Summers picked up the assist.

In a losing effort, Allen was sparked by Chris Doyle, who tallied two goals. Doyle scored the first of his two goals at 7:27 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Wichita. Doyle's next tally made the score 3-2 Wichita with 11:13 left in the second period. Todd Robinson assisted on the tally.

Wichita was below its usual level of shot production, taking 19 shots compared to the 24.5 the Thunder average.

Wichita also got points from Lowe, who also registered one goal and one assist and Neil Trimm, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Wichita also got a goal from David Inman as well. In addition, Wichita received assists from Andrew Martens, who had two and Chad Painchaud, Jon Madden, and Kevin Young, who each chipped in one.

By firing 43 shots on goal, the Americans exceeded the 22.2 shots they average per game this year.

Tyler Ludwig also scored for Allen. More assists for Allen came via Darryl Bootland and Adam Pineault, who contributed one a piece.

Wichita's Torrie Jung stopped 40 shots out of the 43 that he faced. The Thunder incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Steve Silverthorn made five saves before being replaced by Aaron Dell, who took the loss and made 10 saves. Allen incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
