Quad City uses shootout to best Fort Worth, 3-2 (3-2 SO)i-wireless Center Sun, Mar 03, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Quad City Mallards and the Fort Worth Brahmas both failed to score in overtime, but Quad City won the game 3-2 (3-2 SO) after Shayne Toporowski's deciding goal in the shootout. The shootout featured nine attempts between both teams. Fort Worth got shootout goals from John Snowden and Brendon Hodge. The Mallards also got shootout goals from Mike Hellyer and Anthony Perdicaro.Quad City put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Brahmas to score on any of their three power plays. With 29 shots on target during the contest, the Mallards exceeded the 24.6 shots they average per game this year. Quad City was helped by Mickey Lang, who grabbed one goal. Lang scored 1:41 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Matt Boyd provided the assist. Quad City also got a goal from Obi Aduba as well. In addition, Quad City received assists from Jason Kostadine, Perdicaro, and Matt Duffy, who each chipped in one. Fort Worth managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Brahmas finished below its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game. Fort Worth put 31 shots on net during the contest, more than the 17.1 it averages per game. The Brahmas were helped by Austin Mayer, who finished with one goal and one assist. Mayer scored 13:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fort Worth. Calin Wild assisted on the tally. Fort Worth additionally got points from Taylor McReynolds, who also registered one goal and one assist. Neil Conway rejected 29 shots on goal for the Mallards. Quad City incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Fort Worth's Kristofer Westblom stopped 26 shots out of the 28 that he faced.
