Allen outlasts Missouri, 3-2

The game between the Allen Americans and the Missouri Mavericks was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Allen emerged with a 3-2 win.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Trevor Hendrikx at 17:43 of the second period.

Jamie Schaafsma had two goals to lead the Americans to victory. Schaafsma scored at 7:03 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Allen and again while 10:04 into the second to make the score 2-1 Allen.

Allen put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Missouri to score on any of its four power plays. The Americans relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Jarret Lukin, Jim McKenzie and Schaafsma took 12 of the team's 19 shots.

More assists for Allen came via Anthony Maiani, who had one, Darryl Bootland, who had two, and Jason Deitsch, who had three.

The Mavericks relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Sebastien Thinel, Evan Vossen and Kenton Miller took 12 of the team's 21 shots. Missouri was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 26 penalty minutes.

The Mavericks were helped by Colt King, who finished with one goal. King scored 11:32 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Vossen picked up the assist. Missouri additionally got points from Vossen, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Missouri received assists from Trevor Kell and Ryan Jardine, who each chipped in one.

Allen's Aaron Dell stopped 19 shots out of the 21 that he faced. The Americans incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Mike Clemente rejected 16 shots on goal for Missouri.
