Bob Preece scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Quad City Mallards picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (2-1 SO) win over the Missouri Mavericks.

The shootout lasted for 14 attempts between the teams. Missouri's shootout goal was scored by Sebastien Thinel. Quad City also got a shootout goal from Mike Hellyer.

The Mallards overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Quad City was down 2-1 after a goal by the Mavericks' Thinel at 9:39 in the third period. The Mallards tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Mike Stinziani at 18:14 in the third period.

In the losing effort, Missouri was led by Thinel, who had two goals. Thinel scored the first of his two goals at 8:00 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Ryan Jardine provided the assist. Thinel's next tally made the score Missouri with 10:21 left in the third period. Kellen Tochkin assisted on the tally.

Quad City excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. By firing 36 shots on goal, the Mallards exceeded the 24.6 shots they average per game this year.

Quad City was helped by Anthony Perdicaro, who finished with one goal. Perdicaro scored 5:58 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Quad City. Mickey Lang picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Quad City were Darren McMillan, Matt Boyd, and Hellyer, who each chipped in one.

The Mavericks put 30 shots on net during the contest, more than the 22.8 they average per game.

Neil Conway recorded 28 saves for the Mallards. Quad City totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Missouri's Mike Clemente stopped 33 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The Mavericks ended with eight minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major.
