Troy Schwab registered two points to lead the Denver Cutthroats to a 5-2 victory over the Quad City Mallards. The Denver penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and three majors for 31 minutes in penalty time. The Cutthroats surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. Denver's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Quad City power plays. The Cutthroats' offense was clicking better than usual and put 32 shots on goal during the game, better than the 19.0 shots per game they average. Denver also had goals scored by Mikael Bedard, who had two and Phil Tesoriero and Ben Wilson, who each put in one. More assists for Denver came via Brad Smyth, who had two and Adam Smyth, Gabe Gauthier, Luke Fulghum, Michael Trebish, Aaron MacKenzie, and Jean-Philipp Chabot, who contributed one a piece. Quad City racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and three majors for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game the Mallards had been spending in the box. By firing 37 shots on goal, Quad City exceeded the 23.8 shots it averages per game this year. The Mallards were helped by Matt Duffy, who finished with one goal. Duffy scored 2:22 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Denver. Jason Dixon picked up the assist. Quad City additionally got points from Obi Aduba, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Quad City received assists from Michael Monfredo and Anthony Perdicaro, who each chipped in one. Kieran Millan recorded 35 saves for Denver. The Cutthroats registered one goal on four power play opportunities. John Murray took the loss and made 23 saves before being replaced by Neil Conway who made four saves.
