Missouri uses shootout to best Wichita, 5-4 (3-2 SO)

Evan Vossen scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Missouri Mavericks picked up the extra point in a 5-4 (3-2 SO) win over the Wichita Thunder.

The shootout featured 12 attempts between both teams. Wichita got shootout goals from Matt Summers and RG Flath. Missouri also got shootout goals from John-Scott Dickson and Sebastien Thinel.

The Mavericks got the win thanks to a great game by Kenton Miller, who had one goal and two assists. Miller scored 10:52 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Missouri. Thinel picked up the assist.

In a losing effort, the Thunder were sparked by Flath, who finished with two goals. Flath scored the first of his two goals at 1:29 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wichita. Summers assisted on the tally. Flath's next tally made the score 4-3 Missouri with 2:26 left in the second period. Chad Painchaud picked up the assist.

With 38 shots on target during the contest, Missouri exceeded the 23.0 shots it averages per game this year.

Missouri also got points from Kellen Tochkin, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Missouri also got a goal from Colt King as well. Other players who recorded assists for Missouri were Trevor Kell, Jared Lavender, and Dickson, who each chipped in one.

Wichita relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Painchaud, Andrew Martens and Neil Trimm took 14 of the team's 26 shots.

Wichita additionally got points from Painchaud, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. More assists for Wichita came via Kevin Young and Matt Robinson, who contributed one a piece.

Mike Clemente rejected 22 shots on goal for the Mavericks. Missouri incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Grant Rollheiser recorded 33 saves for the Thunder. Wichita incurred five minutes in penalty time with two minors.
