Quad City squeaks by Arizona, 3-2i-wireless Center Sat, Feb 16, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Quad City Mallards and the Arizona Sundogs was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Quad City emerged with a 3-2 win. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Mickey Lang at 17:06 of the second period. The Mallards were sparked by Lang, who tallied one goal. Quad City racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with five minors and three majors for 35 minutes in penalty time. The Mallards had been averaging 17.0 minutes in penalties per game. Quad City's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Arizona power plays. With 29 shots on target during the contest, the Mallards exceeded the 24.2 shots they average per game this year. Quad City also got a goal from Patrik Levesque as well. In addition, Quad City received assists from Obi Aduba, Matt Boyd, Mitch McColm, Tyler Amburgey, and Mike Hellyer, who each chipped in one. Arizona forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and two majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. The Sundogs surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. Arizona's offense was clicking better than usual and put 34 shots on goal during the game, better than the 24.4 shots per game it averages. The Sundogs were helped by Ron Meyers, who had one goal. Meyers scored 4:40 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Quad City. Johan Ryd assisted on the tally. Arizona also got points from Jake Hauswirth, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Arizona came via Matt McCready, who had one. Neil Conway made 32 saves for Quad City on 34 shots. The Mallards registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For Quad City, Mike Stinziani was ejected from the game. Adam Russo rejected 26 shots on goal for Arizona.
